About 54% of Indians today are connected via their mobile phones to the Internet, many more than the estimated 10% who use computers. This shapes internet usage on the subcontinent, sometimes for the surprising: for example, in one state, the local government tackled teacher absenteeism by asking students to upload images of school conditions and teacher presence.
